The American Voices Project aims to listen to people across the country to hear their life stories and ideas about their communities, in an effort to transform the policy-making process. For one year, I interviewed people across the Gulf Coast of the United States. Upon the emergence of COVID-19, transitioned from field work to telephonic interviews.

Greater New York City Area

Supported legal work for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status and Asylum cases. Translated for pro-bono attorneys in immigration court. Helped screen immigrant children in ORR shelters who were separated from their families.

Conducted ethnographic with Peggy Levitt, Professor of Sociology. Researched connections to labor unions and Homeland as a means to accessing healthcare.

Guayaquil, Ecuador

Worked directly with Resettlement Officer for United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), to assist the completion of Registration Resettlement Forms (RRFs). Interviewed candidates for resettlement and translated interviews in order to write testimonies and proof of credibility. Researched and wrote briefs on country of origin to individual cases facing special protection needs. Maintained the Unit’s files on individual cases considered for resettlement. Conducted pre-interviews and reports on individual cases being assessed. Corresponded with Field Offices, partner agencies and various state agencies.

Dorchester, Ma

Worked with non-profit community food market on a mission to bringing affordable, nutritious food to all, while simultaneously reducing food waste. Worked in the store and kitchen, passed out food samples and interacted with customers at 'engagement zone', helped with volunteer coordination and labeling design.

Fellow of a non-profit social enterprise dedicated to leadership development through cultural immersion. Apprenticed with Sinchi Warmi, a community tourism center formed by and for women to celebrate their Kichwa heritage, and earn a community income.
