Provides overall strategic and operational direction for the first out-of-state continuing care retirement community for Concordia; responsible for oversight of community and 200 staff being in alignment with mission, vision and values of the corporation; facility includes 22 villas, 144 garden apartments, 48 skilled nursing beds and 44 assisted living beds. Directed practices and processes that improved quality, customer satisfaction and employee retention.Forged beneficial relationships with hospitals, physicians, homecare providers and the local community in this new market, resulting in campus occupancy increasing from 70% to near 100% with a waiting list.Initiated a Mission and Ministry Committee that identifies and helps meet the unmet needs in the Akron community through partnering with other faith based non-profits providing services. Played a major role in the design, construction and occupancy of a $13M expansion project involving 79 skilled beds, 100 assisted living beds and an adjoining community outpatient center that includes an outpatient rehab and aquatic center, a medical office suite and an x-ray suite. Initiated and developed a holistic wellness program for the community; program included adding fitness areas, strength and balance classes, yoga, tai chi, vegetarian and memory meals, massage services and staff wellness program. Researched and obtained grant monies for projects or equipment such as “It’s Never Too Late Technology, Music and Memory” and safe lifting devices.

In collaboration with the CEO and board, developed a strategic plan to ensure ongoing financial sustainability and quality outcomes for the Skilled Nursing and Outpatient Rehabilitation Service lines; responsible of the development and management of an annual operating budget of $20M; provided oversight to the other skilled facilities and Outpatient Rehabilitation locations. Worked collaboratively with Directors to ensure key financial, occupancy, resident satisfaction and quality care objectives were met on an ongoing basis; consistently achieved high occupancy percentages, optimal operating margins and outstanding customer surveys.Explored new business ventures and made recommendations to the CEO and board; developed and successfully marketed 3 short-term rehabilitation units; planned, initiated and managed the start-up and ongoing operations of new programs and services.Introduced and developed culture change initiatives, including a comprehensive health and wellness program for employees.Obtained CARF-CCAC accreditation for organization.

Developed a strong nursing, housekeeping, rehabilitation, and case management team in a 172-bed Skilled Nursing facility; brought rehabilitation services in-house versus using contracted services, providing savings for the organization. Developed and implemented policy and procedures to capture costs for reimbursement.Provided oversight for the Registered Nurse Coordinators of two Skilled Nursing facilities; managed and supervised the nursing care services of a 167-bed facility.Assisted in the planning, completion and occupancy of a 91-bed expansion project.Achieved 3 deficiency-free Department of Health surveys.
