Recruited by a Salon Manager who saw my online portfolio. Great company, with perks, 401k, paid training etc. JC Penney gave me my first taste of what it feels like to work for a corporate salon. I am truly grateful for my time there especially having a very negative experience from a mom and pop salon. After my experience with JC Penney, they are very professional and for me, it’s CORPORATE SALONS only! I would have stayed and refuse other offers from recruiters had it not been for the fact that the salon manager kept hiring fresh out of school stylists. There was more competition to build a clientele especially for a location where shoppers are more concerned with saving their pennies and a mall where many businesses like big name Sears, Bon-Ton and Kay Jewelers have closed down due to little foot traffic. My sister-in-law opened my eyes when she told me; “why didn’t the salon manager give more hours and days to the stylists that have been there longer?”

I love the Aveda salon concepts. Their products are easiest to understand; from hair care to color line, it’s a no-brainer. The salons I’ve worked for were mom and pop salons. Unfortunately, I find that an environmental where s€xu@! h@rr@$$m€nt is present, was a place I didn’t want to be a part of. Too bad, because I really LOVED the Aveda Concept and if I was to have my own salon, I’d pick Aveda as my go to products.

Sole-proprietors have to be the receptionist, the cashier, the bookkeeper, the lawyer, the inventory control, the debt collector, the payroll, etc...I’d rather be an employee and work for a growing salon corporation with a winning team.I’d rather help grow, as a volunteer, the Trichotillomania 501c3 nonprofit I founded, HelpMe2Stop.

At that time, for me, men’s hair loss weren’t a challenge, more of a cookie cutter method. I wanted more challenges. Years later, because I sticked to my passion, I rediscovered hair loss solutions and Trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder) was more my hair loss solution choice.
