Charles began his costs career as a Law Cost Draftsman and Cost Consultant in London in 1991where he gained extensive experience in all levels of civil litigation and costs disputes.Upon moving to Australia in 2000 Charles worked for a number of high profile law firms as an in-house costs consultant and established his own cost consultancy in 2009.Charles brings a wealth of knowledge and experience having specialized exclusively in the field of legal costs for in excess of 30 years, and is now regarded as one of the professions leading experts.Charles's commercial approach to legal practice management and costs consulting provides an invaluable service back to clients resulting in greater costs recovery and transparency.He has acted in and advised on numerous high value and complex cases in federal and state matters, is often called upon to provide expert evidence in relation to gross lump sum and security for costs applications, has advised on costs in class actions and has been appointed by the supreme court nsw as referee.In addition, he has managed and prepared bills of costs, notices of objection, responses, submissions, replies, advices and review applications in all federal and NSW jurisdictions, other Australian states. He is also experienced in undertaking and providing project management across multi-party costs litigation. Charles practiced as a law cost draftsman and cost consultant in Chancery Lane, London before taking up a position of Costs Manager for one of the largest personal injury firms in NSW where he remained for a number of years. Thereafter, Charles ran his own successful costs consultancy before joining the QICS family in June 2011.Charles is well versed in the drafting of bills of cost for assessment, objections, replies and reviews but firmly believes that all avenues of negotiation should be investigated to bring an early and financially beneficial resolution to any dispute.He is driven by the desire to circumvent drawn out and expensive cost disputes and achieve a timely and cost effective conclusion to both party and solicitor client matters.
