In my opinion, the simple act of extending your hand to someone in need, is the most powerful action one can produce. To put it simply, I love helping others. Theres something special about being the calm within the storm to someone who is having the worst day of their life. Being able to help others in they're time of need is a privilege and a sacred trust.As a former Hospital Corpsman, I was a member of the only enlisted Corps in the US Navy. Upon entry into this decorated community, Corpsman are also the only enlisted community to swear a second oath. This oath is a pledge of honor, a sacred trust, that outlines the commitment a Corpsman will provide for patients and superiors alike. A powerful verse of this oath, that has remained with me over the years is simple yet brilliant. "I dedicate my heart, mind, and strength to the work before me." It is this statement that I apply to every patient encounter, wether its the elderly gentleman down the street that needs another lift assist, or a true medical emergency. Due to my military service, I have worked in several different areas of medicine such as Anesthesia, Immunizations, Tactical Combat Casualty Care, Critical Care, and even small medical clinics. I have traveled the world and experienced several different cultures that have taught me one important lesson. That compassion and trust goes beyond any language barrier. With this acquired experience, I finished my time with the Navy and began my civilian Emergency Medical Technician career. As an EMT Basic, I worked in several different communities along the North Shore of Massachusetts. As a Senior EMT, I was responsible for proper patient assessment, treatment, and transport to local hospitals during medical emergencies. I was also responsible for training newly acquired members and developing them into model Emergency Medical Technicians. Recently, I graduated from my Paramedic program and eagerly awaiting an opportunity to apply my new found skills and knowledge. With this new opportunity, "I will dedicate my heart, mind, and strength to the work before me."
