My journey commenced with Kazou, where I served as an instructor. This role demanded creativity and collaboration, as I was entrusted with guiding a group of children and working harmoniously with my colleagues. This experience instilled in me the essence of leadership and teamwork.Subsequently, I extended my leadership to the playground in Deinze, dedicating my summer to children in need of care. This role underscored my commitment to community service and further enhanced my leadership skills.Parallel to my volunteer work, I ventured into the hospitality industry at ‘t Passantje, a restaurant/chip shop. I learned the importance of customer service and honed my communication skills, as I interacted directly with customers.In the academic realm, I pursued Chemistry at HoGent, specializing in Biotechnology. In my third year, I was chosen and privileged to participate in a dual-track program at the Protein Core of VIB. This opportunity allowed me to apply my academic knowledge in a real-world setting, working alongside a diverse team of professionals.Following my internship, I was motivated to continue my journey at the Protein Core, first as a summer intern and now, proudly, as a Junior Core Facility Technician. This trajectory has been both challenging and rewarding, pushing me to continuously learn and grow.So far, my career has been a blend of challenging, engagement, entertainment and continuous learning. I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and very committed to what I do.The VIB Protein Core is a facility focused on recombinant protein production, purification, conjugation, and quality control. As a member of the VIB Protein Core team, I am involved in a variety of tasks, including expression optimization, the scale-up of microbial cultures, mammalian cell culture, downstream processing (purification, various devices are involved such as a sartoflow (diafiltration device) or different chromatography instruments and diverse types of resins are utilized in the process) and quality control. In this team, I have the opportunity to work with sophisticated devices (SEC/MALLS, endotoxin measurements, SDS-PAGE, western blotting, PCR, DLS, ÄKTA chromatography systems and different concentration determination assays) and experts with many years of experience.
