My perspective as an expert consultant and arbitrator is rooted in almost two decades as a senior Insurance executive and twenty years as a practicing litigation lawyer. Law practice gave me a deep appreciation of focus -- isolating and addressing key issues while rejecting distractions and dead-ends. I bring that focus to consulting work and arbitrations.As an expert consultant, I concentrate on the critical issues to create an analysis that is clear and understandable for clients, judges, and juries. My experience allows me to explain the business concepts behind an insurance contract. I joined the insurance industry on a team recruited to handle the most complex and challenging claims facing the insurance companies owned by Xerox Financial Services, Inc. Thereafter, our organization was acquired by Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited to resolve complex claims in its worldwide insurance groups. I was Senior Vice President, Claims, and General Counsel for insurance and companies and affiliates, and served on company boards in the US and Europe.I was responsible for resolution of billions of dollars in disputes, and legal budgets in the tens of millions annually. I dealt with mass tort liabilities, professional malpractice, class actions, construction defects, directors and officers, products liability, pollution, property losses, and other complex matters. I was also deeply involved in corporate, regulatory, and legislative issues.In private practice, as a partner in an AmLaw 100 national firm, I represented clients in a diversity of business disputes and negotiations, including insurance matters, real estate, securities, and contracts. I administered the home office Litigation Department, was legal counsel to the firm, and headed the firm's risk management.
