Optimum design has been my interest since college. At Torrington Company I used 8 dimensions defining raw material and finished part dimensions to generate details for 35 pieces of forming machine tooling, reducing a 6 week design to a day.Eyeball vibratory design practices often result in feed rails with sub-standard performance. Development time, cost, and profits, are left to chance. I saw well-organized engineering methods at Bodine and learned of a feed system quoted for one quarter the cost of a US feed system. Only radical change can meet such competition. Starting Sept. 2006 I wrote a program employing Operations Research to insure every part met vibration design criteria, cut design time by more than 95%, and explicitly minimize cost. I also used vibration calculations to automate multitrack feeder design. Both were written at home.
