Blue Coat School Sep 2015 - Jul 2017
    Coventry, United Kingdom
Due to management restructuring I was asked to take on the management of the Health and Social care department at both GCSE and A Level. In this role I have developed more structured processes, recruited new staff, improved accountability and by supporting staff have seen results rise significantly at both GCSE and A Level. This role is in addition to all the below roles and I am currently in the panning stages for our third international conservation expedition to Cuba in July of 2017. This will be a two week marine expedition looking at sustainable use and management of the marine environments off the Isla del Juvidad - the largest island south of mainland Cuba. These expeditions see students working alongside professional research scientists on cutting edge research and have led to the discovery of new species. They also involve training the students to be open water SCUBA divers in association with local UK dive schools.
  • Blue Coat School
Teacher Of Science - Assistant Head Teacher
Blue Coat School Sep 2013 - Sep 2015
    Coventry, United Kingdom
In addition to the below roles in 2013 I was given whole school responsibility for Gifted and Talented Education and Enrichment across the school. During this time I re-wrote the processes by which the school identifies and tracks the most able students, got 8 lower socioeconomic background able students onto a prestigious 2 year international scholarship with the Sutton trust and Warwick University, established trips to major STEM events in London and Birmingham as well as establishing an annual series of lectures from academics and professionals in fields as varied as music psychology, nuclear fusion, robotics, biological clocks, hydrogen fuel cells, marine biology and many more. In 2014 I led the second international conservation expedition this time to Ecuador and the Galapagos. This 3 week expedition saw students spend a week in the Ecuadorian cloud forests, a week in the Amazon with a recently contacted Huaorani tribe and a week on San Cristobal working with a local university. These expeditions see students working alongside professional research scientists on cutting edge research and have led to the discovery of new species. They also involve training the students to be open water SCUBA divers in association with local UK dive schools.
  • Blue Coat School
Teacher Of Science - Head Of Pshce
Blue Coat School Sep 2009 - Sep 2013
    Coventry, United Kingdom
This role, in addition to my other teaching roles as described below replaced and expanded the Deputy Year Head role and saw me taking responsibility for all of the Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Careers education of a school of 1400 students. This role involves managing ~100 staff, designing and redesigning the curriculum to match the needs of the pupils and the changing educational and political situation. The delivery method has been altered 4 times in my tenure necessitating a complete rewrite of the subject each time with no loss of quality. My schemes of work, delivery structures and training have gained high praise from Ofsted and been exported to other schools in the midlands. The role has involved work with countless outside agencies including Amnesty, The Red Cross, West Midlands Fire Department, The Houses of Parliment, Aston Martin, JLR and management of our unique in-house careers department. In 2012 I ran the School's first international conservation expedition to Madagascar with Operation Wallacea. We spent a week with 15 teenagers in the dry forests of western Madagascar looking at rare species and assessing biodiversity, this week led to the discovery of 2 new species, then a week on Nosy Be island working with marine biologists on reef degradation. These expeditions see students working alongside professional research scientists on cutting edge research and have led to the discovery of new species. They also involve training the students to be open water SCUBA divers in association with local UK dive schools.

Teacher of science from 11 to 18. During this time as a junior teacher I founded the school's Science club which runs to this day, established the school's recycling programme by winning a national competition with a group of 11-12 year old students. This competition generated £11000 for the school and involved taking the students for workshops with Alistair Campbell, meeting then secretary of state for defence Bob Ainsworth and Baroness Estelle Morris as well as a week of outward bound activities in Ullswater during major flooding with the group containing a blind student. The impact of this programme has lasted to the present day in the form of recycling and other green initiatives. Also during this time I bid for an received £40000 worth of solar panels which operate to this day and have saved the school over £10000. I also established ongoing working relationships with Warwick and Coventry universities which persist to this day with our students benefiting from access to the laboratory facilities of both institutions.
