Measuring mRNA expressionin parallel with a phenotypic trait and mapping both traits genetically allows us to quickly identify a cis-acting variant. To be effective however, these must be made across apanel of genetically divers individuals. Association studies use individuals which have berecombining in the wild for many generations and can help us to estimate the position ofquantitative trait genes (QTGs) with high precision. Our goal is to provide to the Neurosporacommunity a fully-genotyped association population complete with mRNA expressionmeasurements designed to maximize genetic resolution and speed the identification ofquantitative trait genes. -
