I write and prosecute patents, with an emphasis on software, electrical engineering, and optics. Technical fields in which I have worked include artificial intelligence and machine learning, content streaming, big-data analytics, social networks, virtual reality, autonomous and electric vehicles, video encoding, wireless and wireline communications, graphical user interfaces, semiconductor metrology, semiconductor memories, microprocessors, and power tools. I also have experience with design patents. I perform freedom-to-operate analyses, write non-infringement and invalidity opinions, and provide advice on patent strategy. In addition to patent prosecution, I have worked extensively on post-grant proceedings. I achieved a complete defense of a family of patents on lithium-ion power-tool battery packs through three rounds of serially filed inter partes reviews (IPRs). The patents went on to be successfully asserted for $28 million. I also defended ex parte reexamination of a patent on breath-gated radiotherapy, winning confirmation of all claims. The patent was subsequently the subject of a $37 million verdict.I went to law school at U.C. Berkeley, where I earned a Certificate in Law and Technology and was an editor for the Berkeley Technology Law Journal (BTLJ). Before becoming a lawyer, I was a semiconductor product engineer working on SRAMs, content-addressable memories (CAMs), and microprocessors. I am an inventor on four issued patents.
