I spent 12 years in the Royal Navy and was promoted to the rank of CPOMEA (M) aged only 23. I served on the nuclear submarines HMS Superb and HMS Sovereign and my final position was as head of nuclear systems. I was awarded the Avonhurst Trophy for showing outstanding leadership qualities during my petty officer’s leadership course in 1979 and the Admiral Herbert Lott award for the top student on the Nuclear Propulsion Course at HMS Sultan in 1980. I left the RN in 1986 to set up a highly successful property management agency in the South West. When I left in 2000 it had over 1000 residential properties generating fee income of just over £650,000.00 per annum. Having decided to become a solicitor I studied law obtaining an upper second class honours degree at the University of Plymouth. My Post Graduate Diploma in Law was obtained at the University of Exeter and I was admitted as a solicitor in April 1997. It was at Plymouth University that I met my wife Amanda, a far greater achievement than reading law. I started Fursdon Knapper Solicitors with my wife (Amanda) and her sister (Kate) in August 1998 acquiring our Keyham office in September 2000 and our Plymstock office in 2013.After 24 years of running our own ship we merged with Curtis Whiteford Crocker which completes a circle as I joined Curtis Solicitors as an Articled Clerk in 1995. The new firm incorporates Fursdon Knapper into Curtis Whiteford Crocker which is the trading name of Curtis Law LLP. Amanda and I are actively involved in the merged partnership and have assumed the role of consultant partners. The combined resources of the merged practices create a new powerhouse of legal services. Curtis Whiteford Crocker are Lexcel accredited and have also been awarded the Law Society's Conveyancing Quality Standard. We believe in providing a quality service to our clients through a traditional approach but embracing modern technology to assist us.
