A long-time Shanghai resident who has relocated to Amsterdam in 2019, Charles Lanceplaine is a filmmaker who has made waves with his skateboarding documentaries that have captured the subcultural zeitgeist of the communities in the cities that he has called home – most recently, through the highly acclaimed work “Shanghai 6”, which empathetically depicts the challenges that the scene has faced as the city has radically transformed in recent years, as skateboarding has gone from a free-for-all to a heavily regulated practice.
