In 1999, Mr. Baker founded MCB Lighting and Electrical while still on USAF active duty. Our CEO, Charles Maurice Baker, is a former mechanical and electrical shop superintendent on Joint Base Andrews "Home of Air Force One". Mr. Baker obtained the USAF 9 level (highest federal certification) for certified high and low voltage electrician, and has a commercial electical license. He is an electrical and lighting systems expert with over 30 years of experience managing complex electrical systems up to 69KV to include the Presidential Airfield and national energy conservation programs. Mr. Baker was directly responsible for over 700 Presidential and DV press setups at Andrews. After close to two years of steady growth to 58 employees, and $800,000 in net profit, he left active duty. He was one of the forefathers spearheading energy efficient lighting into the federal sector and made significant improvements to the federal government's strategic sourcing initiatives for lighting products and services and how they were purchased. His strategic sourcing suggestions help to lower the cost of lighting products purchased by the government direct from the lighting manufacturers by up to 75%, and averaged over 25%. The DoD record of 73 DoD energy related ideas lowered the total system cost of lighting 30% for over 300,000 buildings and 200,000 unoccupied buildings. Mr. Baker was the first military member ever to receive the 1994 Individual Federal Energy and Water Management Award, an award so distinguished he received a letter from the President of the United States and attended a Congressional Ceremony for award winners.
