I retired from the Australian Public Service in 2021 after 41 years. Since 1989 I worked mainly on health policy issues, first in the Department of Finance and then in the Department of Health. I have extensive experience and expertise in health financing issues, including private health insurance and hospital funding, but I have worked on a wide range of other areas including MBS and PBS, dental policy, therapeutic goods regulation, gene technology, organ donation, and blood and plasma products. In 2019-21 I was a senior adviser to the Aged Care Royal Commission, mainly responsible for work on the health-aged care interface.As well as a deep and broad understanding of the health and aged care system, I have excellent analytical and policy development skills. While I am enjoying retirement, I am writing regularly for Croakey and Pearls and Irritations on health and aged care issues, and I have provided advice to several health policy NGOs. I am prepared to assist (on a pro bono basis) organisations in the health sector with developing and articulating policy positions and with strategic advice on government relations. .
