I’ve been involved in energy transition for over 40 years. Over my career, I've have had the opportunity to be accountable for the growth of multi-million dollar existing businesses as well as the development of new business units; I've had the privilege of serving as a Presidential Appointee in my role as Assistant Secretary of Energy and have enjoyed an array of experiences in both domestic and international markets.I was initially attracted to this field through my early visits to Asia and the challenge of creating new businesses there. This experience opened my eyes to life outside of the US and other developed nations, and the struggles of people and societies elsewhere that were striving to lift themselves out of energy poverty to join the global community of rising economies. I saw the impact of technologies and industrial gases such as hydrogen, carbon dioxide and the full array of other gases as an enabler to achieve energy equity. That exposure has never left me even today. In 2018 I was invited to join the University of Houston Energy program and specifically asked to lead a newly formed Center for Carbon Management in Energy (CCME). In the years since my arrival, it has continued to validate UH being THE energy university and having the reputation as the place where industry, academia and government intersect. I’m pleased to share my involvement on the Advisory Board of 3 organizations in this market: 1. DigiKerma leverages blockchain to cultivate independence and sustainability through the trade of measured captured carbon and its verified geologic storage. 2. Warwick Carbon Solutions ("WCS") seeks to build a sizable investment portfolio of net-zero projects designed to replace emission-heavy power and industrial processes with known solutions such as Carbon Capture Use & Storage (CCUS).3. Carbon Neutral Coalition partners with stakeholders, government and industry to make Texas carbon neutral by 2050 and maintain a robust economy that provides a good standard of living and affordable energy, products and services. Carbon management and energy sustainability is developing at a rapid pace, with innovations that are unlocking the value of carbon. The central driving force of our CCME are the opportunities for our industry partners to access federal funding, to create commercial breakthroughs, develop understanding for policy and legal frameworks, and to create a business framework that is accretive to stakeholders.
