This role is responsible for EHS compliance and sustainability at 68 plants in the US and Canada. I achieve this by focusing on the most important compliance aspects to Altium’s business and implementing both active and proactive solutions. Driving consistent culture and expectations from the board room to the manufacturing plants is a paramount focus of my work. Ensuring consistent communication that goes both ways has been vital in achieving a zero-incident culture with no compliance issues. Personally responsible for creating and implementing a sustainability program for Altium that makes a positive impact in the world we live in. My program is based on the theory that the 3 P’s (people, profit, and planet) can be balanced while creating a true circular economy. Other responsibilities at Altium include the following: EHS diligence and integration owner for acquisitions and plant closures. Most recent acquisition was a $100M company in the pharmaceutical industry. Responsible for Crisis Response and Preparedness at all 68 plants and corporate headquarters. Owner of risk management tool that is being used for business continuity planning. Complete all customer surveys or questionnaires related to EHS and sustainability. Assist with providing letters of continuing guarantee (quality certifications) to customers in US and Canada to meet FDA and Health Canada requirements. Onboard all new plant managers and corporate employees to EHS at Altium. Manage correspondence of all EHS matters with Federal, state, and local agencies. Provide assistance and guidance on the more difficult Worker’s Compensation claims. Own sustainability relationships with external organizations (Plastics Industry Association and The Recycling Partnership).

In 2016, the Coca Cola company created a new division called Coca-Cola North America (CCNA) that was comprised of 18 existing manufacturing plants across the US. I was responsible for executing strategic leadership in the areas of Environmental, Occupational Health, Safety, Security, and Sustainability (EHSSS) within this new organization. Freedom was given from leadership to update EHS policies, procedures, and the mgt systems (ISO 14001 and 18001/45001). Conducted an EHS staffing assessment that resulted in an additional EHS support position being added to 5 plants. Achieving OSHA’s Voluntary Protection program (VPP) status was a primary focus. I was at the helm for the development, implementation, and management of strategic plans and processes to address systemic EHSS Issues; collaborating with CCNA Product Supply System functional areas which included, Platforms, Plants, Business Units, Engineering, Public Affairs, Crisis Resolution, Environmental, Quality, Logistics, Commercialization and the Productivity Center of Excellence. Other responsibilities: Conducted third-party supplier audits. Coordinated external relationships with the corporate governance function, external regulatory bodies, customers, NGOs and trade associations. Driving ongoing sustainability programs for energy, water, and waste utilization improvement. Department of Homeland Security inspections and compliance. Co-leader of CCNA corporate (4000+ employees) Well Being team that focused on improving mental, social, physical, and financial health of all employees. Provided wastewater subject matter support to plants requiring wastewater upgrades or experiencing compliance issues. Led and/or facilitated monthly call with EHS manager from all plants to ensure work that matter most was being completed. Conducted root cause analysis for OSHA recordable incidents.

Served as SES manager for 4 (Cleveland, TN, College Park, GA, Marietta, GA, and Montgomery, TN) production plants. Responsible for establishing, conducting or responding to health and safety assessments/analyses in plant (e.g., medical surveillance, worker exposure, WC assessment, defining drug/alcohol testing protocol) to minimize health and safety risks. Led the implementation of each plant’s sustainability, wastewater quality, asbestos, and ammonia strategy including review and approval of suppliers and design firms, compliance tracking and review/approval of designs. Develop implementation strategies, implement, evaluate and/or certify effective implementation of corporate EHSS Systems. Conduct risk assessment by identifying and assessing potential magnitude of risk (e.g., environmental, safety, regulatory, production feasibility and quality) and creating contingency plans. Ensure provision of timely EHSS awareness and compliance training programs as appropriate to all levels of operations and management. Ensure programs meet all legal (EPA & OSHA) regulatory & licensing requirements and CCR policy requirements. During times of serious incident, serve as a site member of the crisis management team by directing efforts when requested, offering recommendations, interpreting regulations and completing communication, including government regulators or agencies.

Served as regional environmental (REM) manager for Southeastern US. Responsible for environmental affairs at 16 CCR plants and 60+ distribution, warehouse, and fleet sites located in 9 different states. Worked to assist environmental lead at each of these sites to proactively maintain environmental compliance and sustainability goals (water, energy, and waste). Compliance was achieved by ensuring each facility was compliant with TCCC KORE requirements along with local, state, and federal (EPA) laws and regulations (e.g., PSM, RCRA, EPCRA, TRI, SPCC, SWPPP, CAA, and CWA). Assisted facilities with understanding and implementing their hazardous and nonhazardous waste, air, wastewater, water, and stormwater requirements. Where necessary, created programs, procedures, and work instructions to assist facilities with their compliance. Routinely used Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Microsoft Project.Provided subject matter expert advice in the area of wastewater operation and maintenance to ensure that facilities maintained regulatory compliance and did not receive notices of violation (NOV). This was done through proactive programs that assisted facilities in understanding their wastewater systems and what their potential failure modes were. I have conducted wastewater FMEA workshops at 6 plants. I worked with corporate engineering on wastewater projects (two full wastewater treatment plants and four pH treatment system upgrades) that totaled in excess of $25M. Responsible for managing environmental assessment and remediation projects at these facilities. Project management starts with hiring environmental consultant and managing through the project life cycle. Managed 4 underground storage tank (UST) sites and 1 arsenic contaminated site. Previously managed asbestos surveys and associated O&M plans for my assigned facilities.

Served as the program manager on Navy environmental projects on NAS Jacksonville that is a NPL site. Also worked on complex environmental projects for other federal (Navy, Coast Guard, NASA) and private (e.g., Alcoa and PPG) manufacturing and chemical clients. Responsible for implementing state and/or federal regulations and providing technical support during the assessment and remediation process. Responsible for the implementation of RCRA, CERCLA, MMRP, and UST program based assessment and remediation projects, generation of SARS, RAPS, RI/FS, Proposed Plans, RODs, LUCRDs, Health and Safety Plans, QAPPs, SAPs, CARS, and various work plans. Job required extensive communication with regulators (state and federal) to ensure projects were proceeding within applicable guidelines and maintaining regulatory compliance. Facilitated public meeting to inform potentially affected stakeholders of the proposed remedial actions. Managed up to 11 environmental projects at once with a total budget of $3.5 million. As a project manager, I was responsible for all aspects of a project. These aspects include scope development, budget estimates, bid evaluation, field work supervision, risk management, scheduling, change orders, waste disposal, data evaluation, report preparation, and project close out. As a technical specialist, I was responsible for evaluating environmental data, creating remedial solutions, and then implementing the remedial design. Additional technical experience in the area of construction oversight/management, project safety, stormwater and erosion control inspections (NPDES), wellhead protection, groundwater sampling and remediation technologies, and environmental audits. Technical expert in the implementation of environmental information management systems for various federal clients.

Performed research on contamination of ground water wells and rural wellhead protection planning. Created fact sheets on this and similar topics for Agricultural Extension office.

Assisted supervisors in scheduling and job layout for utility and infrastructure projects relating to water, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, electric, telecommunications, gas, roadways, and building footers. Hands-on experience performing all aspects of the field work relating to the preparation and implementation of infrastructure projects. Personally responsible for documenting project progress and completion goals for use in potential litigations.

Summer job during while obtaining undergraduate degree at University of Kentucky. I performed as a general laborer or equipment operator for construction company that installed development infrastructure. This typically included installing roads and utilities (gas, electric, water, sewer, communications) and general site grading for any size construction project. Work days typically began by 7 am and were 10 to 12 hr days. Most weeks I worked between 50 - 60 hrs. This job taught be time mgt, scheduling, contractor mgt, and commitment to getting work done no matter the hours or effort it takes.
