EngineerFord Motor Company Jan 1996 - Jan 1997Dearborn, Michigan, UsFEAD Torsional Simulator: this machine was totally refurbished from non-functional to one that could simulate firing pulses on an ICE engine's front damper. The simulator could generate realistic "AC" speed pulses superimposed on an average "DC" speed for 4-6-8 cylinder engines up to 3000 rpm to study system effects on front end accessory drive accessories. The simulator used a state-of-the-art vector flux motor drive employing IGBT transistors to drive a custom designed, liquid cooled, 117 HP 3 phase induction motor. This one the first machine of many systems sold by Unico (Franksville, WI) for use in engine dynamometer cells.
