Hello! I’m Charles Niu, an Engineering Physics student at Queen's University specializing in Electrical Engineering. I’m passionate about diving into 5G, RF, automation, and hardware development. I recently completed a 16-month internship at Dell Technologies, where I gained practical, hands-on experience in 5G RF testing, radio calibration, and developing automation scripts in Python, MATLAB, and Robot Framework. My work ranged from optimizing RF testing platforms to streamlining 5G signal processes to reduce calibration runtime, achieving results that align with 3GPP standards.Beyond my internship, I thrive in team environments and love pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in tech. Currently, I’m working on my capstone project to design a real-time UAV detection and targeting system, where I’m developing Python-based algorithms and camera-tracking systems using the YOLO algorithm to maximize detection range and accuracy. Additionally, my thesis project has me working on a remote-controlled robot that maps HVAC ducts in 3D using SLAM algorithms and real-time visual feedback, enhancing mapping accuracy and control efficiency.Technical skills aside, I’m all about creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement. I enjoy tackling challenges head-on, whether it’s enhancing system efficiency, optimizing code, or brainstorming fresh ideas to solve complex problems. I’m now eager to bring my experience and enthusiasm to an entry-level role in 5G, RF, or hardware development, where I can make an impact, learn from industry experts, and continue expanding my technical expertise.
