Sites Manager Haughmond Abbey

Upton Magna, Shrewsbury, Shropshire

Haughmond Abbey is a unusual example of a Norman Augustinian Abbey in that it is built directly into a hill side. Typical of its kind, it once dominated central Shropshire, being responsible for over 30 mills. As Site Manager, I manage the ruins of the Abbey. I ensure all relevant compliance checks and health and safety requirements are met as well as inspecting the site on a daily basis. My position requires me to act up as a sub accountant and as such I am responsible for cash handling, daily, weekly and monthly cash reconciliation and banking. I also work towards the key performance indicator figures for the site. These include membership sales and recruitment, retail spend per head and guide book sales.I have enjoyed my time with English Heritage, and have enjoyed working with my co-workers and my line manager. I would certainly reccomend anyone interested in heritage issues or perhaps a career in the heritage sector to find out more about what English Heritage can offer.
