Reporting to the Legal function I provided strategic & practical advice to internal & external stakeholders; for example, supporting matters such as Brexit, CBAM, to name just two, PLACI requirements for security & the impact & ever evolving breath of sanctions & export controls arising from the Russia & Ukraine war. Achievements (see Resume for more details):▪ Advised internal Senior Management Teams ("SMT") & external (client) stakeholders on policy, legal, geo-political & reputational risk.▪ Successfully created, implemented a trade compliance & customs consultancy in the UK▪ Successfully identified risk & created & implemented a global trade control program, managing a team in 50+ countries, creating subject specific and mandatory global training, reviewing denied party screening, etc. ▪ Managed, directed, & advised at all levels of the organization, during an unprecedented period of change (RU-UA War) for the Trade Control & Customs requirements in multiple jurisdictions focusing on law, policy, & reputational risk.

Reporting to the Legal function I established a trade compliance & customs function & related team in EMEA. Achievements (see Resume for more details):▪ Successfully implemented a global trade control policy, standards, & program in EMEA.▪ Led supply chain security programs; AEO & C-TPAT▪ Successfully implemented trade control system (now E2-open) incorporating screening with the business ERP, SAP.▪ Provided advice to the product design teams as to whether & to what extent the product design would be impacted by export controls or sanctions along with its customs classification number & duty rate. ▪ Investigated potential breaches of export control over a 3-year period & arranged voluntary disclosures in several countries in Europe, including the Netherlands & Germany. Negotiating with Govt’s on the outcomes, resulting in minimal penalties. Initiated specific training & process improvements on the causes of these non-compliances.

Ultimately reporting to the legal department, my responsibilities included elements of Procurement, Supply Chain & specifically logistics as well as export, import, sanctions, customs controls and customs duty saving.Achievements (see Resume for more details):▪ Worked with the World Customs Organization in Brussels on binding classification rulings.▪ Represented Alcatel in the Indian High Court in relation to inconsistent customs classification by Indian Authorities▪ Developed cost-reduction/recovery opportunities (binding rulings, FTA, Preferences & other customs programs) in several jurisdictions.▪ Negotiated with various Govt’s to re-classify Optical Amplifiers resulting in a reduction in duty, recovery of historic duty & no duty cost moving forward. These were US$1M per unit & this change resulted in multi-million US$ savings.▪ Implemented Purchasing & Supply Chain optimisation ensuring greater control, transparency of actual costs to function & increased visibility of each element of the supply chain. Further savings were achieved by managing the customs activity.▪ Supply Chain rationalisation of 3rd Party providers.

The Wallis organisation provided supply chain logistics, outsourcing and procurement operations to its customers. In my role I developed and managed these operations by creating sales and purchasing opportunities; identifying and qualifying suppliers; carrying out audits of customers supply chain activities, and presenting results, negotiating commercial contracts; recruiting customer facing teams and support personnel; managing up to 42 personnel in 11 different locations; implementing operational, government, customs and customer procedures; implementing and developing logistics management of multi-client environments; making overseas agency appointments.
