  • Symphony Advanced Media
    President & Ceo
Symphony Advanced Media Aug 2012 - Apr 2017
In 2015, Symphony Advanced Media was struggling to scale its business strategy and expand its low profit margins. Collaborating with key stakeholders and industry influencers, we assessed market potential and leveraged audience insights to launch our superior syndicated subscription service. Within 6 months, the majority of US television networks and studios subscribed to our service, doubling our annual revenue run rate. By providing industry-first streaming video consumption metrics, we generated significant visibility and momentum.Responding to the industry’s frustration with legacy media measurement firms Nielsen and Comscore, we disrupted the industry via the launch of the VideoPulse™ service in Fall 2015. As the first measurement service to create the ‘L35’ rating, we tracked TV/video viewership beyond Nielsen’s L7 currency and streamed original ratings. My initiative and client-relations skills allowed me to bring on board foundational clients such as NBC, ABC, Viacom, AMC Networks, A&E Networks, National Geographic, Sony Pictures TV, and Scripps Networks Interactive during VideoPulse’s first year. Major Impacts •Pioneered the industry’s first true cross-platform ad effectiveness program, working with brands such as Unilever, GM, Hyundai and Comcast, and agencies such as Mindshare, GroupM, Mediavest, Carat and Canvas. • Secured 0$ to $5MM revenue growth in first 4 years.• Launched the industry’s first solution generating ratings for streaming video services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu.• 10 syndicated contracts secured from major TV networks and studios within 6 months of SymphonyAM VideoPulse product launch.
  • Nielsen
Senior Vice President, Online Campaign Ratings
    Nielsen Apr 2011 - Aug 2012
    New York, Ny, Us
I played a key role in bringing Nielsen’s most innovative new initiative, a joint venture with Facebook, to market. My analytics and market research expertise were instrumental to bringing GRP metrics and enhanced accountability to online marketers. Major Impacts• Engaged 18 of the 25 largest US advertisers within 6 months of Nielsen-Facebook joint venture launch.• As a lead spokesman, represented our brand and products to ARF, AdWeek, ad-tech and other major online conference appearances, transforming the industry conversation on relevance of GRPs for online campaigns.• Converted Unilever, Johnson & Johnson, and other top advertisers from trial to full contracts, putting the company on track for ambitious 2012 revenue targets.
  • Nielsen
Chairman & Ceo, Nielsen Online Japan
    Nielsen Aug 2009 - Mar 2011
    New York, Ny, Us
During the midst of the global recession, I was sent to oversee the Nielsen Online business in Japan, where lack of core subscription renewals and lower-priced alternatives had put our revenue at significant risk. By quickly assembling a team of digital specialists, we were able to launch an innovative social media analytics business, promoting the “paid, owned and earned” media concept. As a result, major firms consolidated their social media analytics onto our platform, driving $1MM in revenue in the first 9 months. With momentum from this initiative, Nielsen Online was able to grow by 20% during my 2-year tenure, bouncing back from the effects of the recession.Major Impacts• Sent to Japan to redirect Nielsen’s second-largest global online business, a joint venture between Nielsen, TransCosmos and Dentsu, which was seriously impacted by the 2008-2009 recession and management challenges. • Managed a full P&L responsibility for a $12MM business with 65 employees.• After revenue declines from 2007 through 2009, we grew revenues 8% in 2010. Positioned unit for growth in 2011 by launching social media tracking business, which grew from scratch to almost $1MM in last 6 months of 2010.• 23% cut in headcount implemented within three months after I was brought in to address management challenges. Hired 8 senior sales and research members to grow the business in new directions.• Grew market share to 75% by solidifying Nielsen’s reputation for quality data, services and analysis in Japan, investing in our industry-leading online audience panel, overseeing the publications of innovative white papers, and launching informational webinars - a novelty in Japan that attracted hundreds of attendees.• Grew employee productivity by 10% and transformed the morale of the entire Japanese office, while enhancing communication between the Japanese team and the rest of Nielsen.
  • Nielsen
Senior Vice President, Research & Analytics, Nielsen Online
    Nielsen Apr 2002 - Aug 2009
    New York, Ny, Us
As the SVP of Research & Analytics, I developed and implemented forward-thinking audience metrics and market research initiatives. This position allowed me to combine leadership and team-building skills with my innovative and data-driven insights, providing solutions and guidance to expand Nielsen Online’s custom analytics services.Facing declining revenues and new competition, Nielsen//NetRatings’ syndicated subscription service began to slip from its industry leadership position. Under my leadership, the Research & Analytics team created an initiative to grow custom service revenue and secure much-needed product line diversity. Assembling a fantastic team of data analysts, we created a strategy to generate a full suite of custom services focused on leading clients such as Microsoft, AOL, and Yahoo! Over the next 7 years, we expanded custom service revenue from 5% to over 43% of total company revenue. This growth increased top line revenue in the face of core syndicated business decline and led to NNR’s full acquisition by The Nielsen Company. Major Impacts• Recruited and developed a team of 75 commercially-oriented analysts. Grew the custom analytics share of Nielsen Online’s business from less than 5% in 2002 to 43% in 2009. • Consistent +20% ahead-of-plan revenue growth fueled by combining online and offline ad expenditure applications for agencies, advertisers and publishers seeking rationale to increase their online marketing exposure.• Led expansion into CPG and Retail industries, helping NetRatings grow beyond its traditional strength with agency and media players. • Appeared as company spokesman in coverage by The New York Times, Washington Post, Forbes.com, Los Angeles Times, CNN, CNBC, and other outlets. In addition, I was frequently invited to speak at leading online media industry conferences.
  • Adrelevance And Jupiter Media Metrix
    Vice President, Media Research
Adrelevance And Jupiter Media Metrix Jul 1999 - Apr 2002
After recruiting and developing a 20-person team of Media Analysts, we created the world’s first taxonomy for the online advertising market, providing a set of categorical and descriptive tools to organize, target, and prioritize key ad metrics. Our efforts expanded this database to over 35,000 ads in nine industries at product launch in September 1999. The service grew to become the global leader in online ad tracking with tens of millions of ads trackedIn addition, I created an Online Media Research Advisory Council which brought together AOL, DoubleClick, 24/7 Media, OgilvyOne and Excite@Home, and helped AdRelevance become market leader within one year of product launch.
