About Charles Cowap

Charles is a Chartered Surveyor, Chartered Environmentalist and Training Specialist with over 30 years’ experience of new developments in rural estate management and valuation, most recently focussed on natural capital, ecosystem services and new forms of asset valuation. What Charles does: o Specialised valuation consultancy and training including Red Book reviews o Rural taxation o Estate Trustee training, Rural estate strategic reviews, strategic and stakeholder analysis o Facilitation of meetings, strategic discussions, and reviews for directors, trustees, partners, rural estates, farms and other land-holding organisations and charities o Confidential Coaching and Mentoring for rural professionals, senior partners/divisional directors o Organisational succession planning o Development and practice of presentation skillso Rural policy consultation, analysis, response and briefing In recent years he has worked on various valuation publications, including authorship of the RICS Guidance Note on Valuation of Trees for Amenity and Related Purposes, the Information Paper on Comparables, joint authorship of the Guidance on 1986 Act Rent Reviews published with CAAV and the Information Paper on renewable energy valuations published in May 2012. He is also the author of the chapter on agricultural property in Valuation, Principles into Practice published by Estates Gazette, and Milk Quotas in Valuation: Special Properties, Special Purposes by the same publisher. Concise Rural Taxation, his annual tax update, enjoys a healthy following amongst rural estate managers and rural valuers, Charles is much in demand as a speaker and facilitator at CPD events, both public and inhouse, face to face and online.     Specialised rural professional and business training and development for agriculture, land management and the rural economy.We worked with a range of rural employers in the development of novel approaches to rural education, through REEDNet's mission to transform rural education. This encompassed graduate training for the fresh produce industry in the form of the MDS Graduate Programme, professional training for aspiring rural chartered surveyors at undergraduate, postgraduate and postqualification (cpd) stages, animal health and medicines training (AMTRA), agricultural chemical certification schemes (BASIS), social care supervision and the development of novel forms of educational accreditation for work based research and training. We were one of the few schemes to achieve the targets set by the Higher Education Funding Council, building rapidly over 3 years to the equivalent of over 700 full time students - 4,000 plus actual people.
