About Charlie Roberts

Fast learner who has had to re-invent himself over the course of his career, from engineering to programming/analytics to client facing roles. This diverse background has allowed me to accumulate a host of transferable skills from multiple areas. I’ve come to realize the position that best suits my personality and skills is a role that blends technical aspects with client facing responsibilities. The first time someone other than a family member (love you Grandma!) suggested I get into a customer facing role was at a college engineering fair. I was speaking with someone about a civil engineering job when the lady in the next booth over overheard my conversation and said I would be great at sales.Over the years, I’ve honed my technical knowledge by starting to learn Excel/VBA and working my way up to SQL, Salesforce (5x certified), Tableau and even some HTML/CSS/Javascript. Then I loved interacting with customers at Salesforce, whether that was solving their unique challenges, doing consultative selling or just fostering a trusting relationship over guac and margaritas.Soft skills like active listening and getting people to like you seem to be hard to come by these days. I won’t get it right everytime, but my people skills combined with technical acumen is where I feel I can add the most value, especially to companies that have a culture similar to software/tech. I’ve noticed those are the environments that I can thrive in.

Listed skills include Microstation, Geopak, Civil Engineering, Road, and 14 others.

Tour Guide

Tokyo Train Tours

Needed something to do other than teaching English while in Japan for my significant other's expat assignment. I decided giving tours of the world renowned (and complex) Tokyo train system would suit my skills and personality. It was an absolute blast and below I tried connecting how it is very similar to a "normal" job (I suppose one with a desk?). At the end of the day you are still dealing with people.-Meeting and interacting with new people (lean towards extroversion and finding commonalities) -Teaching tourists how to use the system efficiently (sharing information and optimizing)-Pivoting the tour based on guest responses and reactions (reading people and adaptability)-Quizzing them at the end to test their newfound knowledge (dedication to ensure a 5 star experience)The truly memorable experiences were when we enjoyed a meal or drink afterwards while sharing stories about our travels and lives. Everyone loves a good story, don't they?
