Charles Eguma is an Electrical and Electronics Engineer and Energy Systems Expert. I joined the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) in 2009 and currently an Assistant Chief Technical Officer. I have been involved with several Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency projects in Nigeria and within the ECOWAS Region focusing on Research, Training and Energy Policy Development. My professional experience spans 15 years within the Energy Sector in Nigeria, Ghana and Cabo Verde. Between 2011 and 2015, I led technical project teams within the GEF-UNDP Project - ‘Promoting Energy Efficiency in Residential and Public Sectors in Nigeria’ and helped develop Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPs) for Electrical Appliances in Nigeria. In August 2018, I was appointed as Technical Expert and Nigeria’s representative to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee - ISO/TC301/WG1 on Energy Management and Energy Savings and help in developing the ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems Standards. In June 2019, I attended ISO/TC 301 Plenary meeting held at UNIDO Head Quarters in Vienna, Austria where I presented Nigeria’s position and voted on key amendments to ISO 50001 Standard. I also serve as Member of the ISO/WS ESG/WG1 Technical Committee working with other international experts to develop a framework for implementing Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Principles. Between August 2020 and September 2022, I worked in Ghana at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH as a Consultant and International Senior Expert with GFA Consulting Group Gmbh on the Project ‘Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in the Public Sector (REEEPublic) in Ghana. In September 2023, I was appointed as Technical Expert representing Nigeria at the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Technical Committee - IEC/TC34/WG14 on Lighting Systems. I am a certified Trainer for Solar Photovoltaic Systems Design and Installation, Mini-Grid Design, Energy Audit, Energy Management, ISO 50001EnMS(Lead Auditor & Implementer), Energy Efficient Building Design, and Energy Modelling & Simulation (using Design Builder, EnergyPlus, eQUEST & OpenStudio). I also facilitate training programmes at 3C – Centro Competências Cabo Verde on the Integration of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in the Electricity and Water Sectors, & Measurement, Reporting, and Verification of Energy Efficiency Projects (IPMVP Core Concepts).Highlight of my experience, and major accomplishments, are contained in my detailed Curriculum Vitae.
