A software engineer with over two decades of experience leading projects and high performance teams in finance, healthcare, and tourism, I enjoy sussing out and clarifying the wants, needs, and goals of the stakeholders I interface with then translating them into practical system designs that are highly available, scalable, and efficient.Outside of work I enjoy contributing to and creating open source tools to solve challenges I encounter in my work. Recently, I collaborated with several other software engineers on bringing ring hash load balancing to a JavaScript implementation of the gRPC xDS library.Passions- TypeScript, cleanly written so I or others can understand, maintain, extend, and reuse- Node.js, Express, React- Developing GraphQL APIs (because who wants to be RESTful)- Document databases only when necessary, because an elegant PostgreSQL schema is a beautiful thing- Containerization, CI/CD, testing, and automation with Terraform and Ansible: because I wasted too much of my life chasing deployment issues, recovering from regressions, and compiling- Mircroservices in Kubernetes with Istio service mesh, Envoy proxy, and gRPC- Go, as a lot of great libraries for use in microservices are not available in JavaScript, so having a lot of fun getting to use them now
