Over a 30+ year career at the USEPA, at private law firms, inhouse at a renewable energy developer, in academia, in local government, as a Fulbright Specialist Fellow, and at nonprofits, Charlie Howland has led efforts to find innovative ways to turn complex environmental and energy problems into opportunities, involving collaborative multi stakeholder techniques as well as classic contractual tools to reach economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable solutions. While Charlie's environmental and energy law practice covers compliance and sustainability initiatives under the full range of federal and state environmental laws in the U.S. and abroad, he focuses on helping clients address cutting edge issues associated with remediation and redevelopment of environmentally impaired lands (including complex, multi-jurisdictional cleanups along urban waterways), and the potential intersection of these projects with renewable energy development and other forms of sustainable development. He also works on strategy, financing, and permitting issues for energy-related projects generally, especially at the grid's edge, both as outside general counsel and on specific matters for clients.
Listed skills include Environmental Law, Brownfield Redevelopment, Renewable Energy Project Development, Renewable Energy, and 21 others.
