As a part-time technician to Bionetics engineers, I am responsible for providing fabrication, calibration, and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems in a laboratory setting using advanced technical knowledge and sophisticated test instruments.

After over 30 years with the City of Columbus, Division of Fire, I retired on May 26, 2010. I offer the consulting services of a professional technologist and life-long learner, Microsoft Professional, and information technology graduate of Franklin University, who has extensive expertise in electronics, commercial two-way radio, consumer electronics, computers, programming, mechanics, technical report writing, project management and team leadership. In addition, I am great at analytical analysis and organization, have an eye for detail, and take pleasure in working with and teaching others.

I represented the Fire Chief of the Columbus Division of Fire concerning technological issues, budgeting priorities, and the coordination/management of technology projects as well as technology liaison between the Division of Fire, Department of Public Safety, and the Department of Technology. Analyzed technology needs and formulated policy in order to establish strategic goals concerning intranet and Internet Websites, purchase of computer hardware and software, and contracts. In addition, I was the Microsoft system engineer and administrator for a 1500 user local area network, including multiple physical locations, and supervised a staff of six support technicians. Installed and maintained servers, network routers and switches, desktops, printers, and UPS devices, created websites, developed and maintained SQL databases, wrote software applications as needed.

Provided emergency services of fire fighting and EMS to the residences of greater Columbus, Ohio. Also leadership role as a fire lieutenant with supervisions of up to six other fire fighters assigned under my command. Also provided instruction to other recruit fire fighters and prepared lesson plans.

Diagnosed and repaired commercial and consumer electronic devices including audio and video recorders, video cameras, Apple and Mac computers, computer networks, robots, control systems, power amplifiers, SCA tuners, scanners, and microwave ovens. Created custom electronics and computer programs for the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) and other individuals.

I carried out component level repairs on sophisticated electrical and mechanical instruments including slide and movie projectors, endless loop audio tape players, and amplifiers. Later I established an exhibit maintenance office, including the hiring and overseeing of the department’s staff. I was promoted to supervise the daily building operations, services, and exhibit repairs including development of public safety policies, establishment of operation procedures, and hiring of contract services for HVAC systems, and the management and training of the local fire brigade.

Maintained, repaired, and installed two-way public safety fire and police radio communication systems including fixed, mobile, and portable radio transmitters and receivers, computer data terminals, fire station public address systems, and microwave telemetry relay stations. Also performed general electronic repairs on other city owned vehicles and systems.

As a student, worked part-time at WOSU Radio. Performed electronic maintenance and repairs as well as live broad engineering. Also was instrumental in the move from the old studios on 19th Avenue to the then new Center for Tomorrow, now the Fawcett Center.
