I became CEO of HCA Laboratories in 2016. At the time, the teams worked hard to provide the pathology services their clients needed – but they didn’t have didn’t have the space, the technology or the shared vision to go the extra mile. It was my job to address this, and to help make HCA Laboratories a truly-world class pathology provider. Two years on, we’ve made huge strides. We have a new leadership team, with a new, ambitious strategy. And, following a £multi-million refurbishment, we have a state-of-the-art laboratory space where teams can work together under one roof. We’ve reviewed our processes, restructured our teams, and have acquired well-respected businesses so that we can do more for both private and NHS customers. As a result, the lab is in a position to support increasing demand from HCA’s own hospitals, and to deliver new services in pathology and precision medicine for new clients across the UK. Before joining HCA I led the operational turnaround of AXA’s under-performing health services business. This meant upgrading and extending service lines, restructuring the organisation, reducing costs and launching a new, division-wide IT platform. The result was a return to growth and significantly improved profits. I also helped to develop strategic enhancements – such as MSK / psychological health pathways – to the £1.4billion parent PMI business.
