Barton Willmore LLP is the UK's largest multi-disciplinary planning and design practice. I enjoyed working there from October 2011, until I retired at the end of January 2019, as in-house counsel heading up risk management, compliance and contractual matters. I am a Chartered Architect with over 40 years in practice and also a qualified Barrister. For the past 25 years I have been involved in legal and risk management, creating standard forms and negotiating bespoke appointments, scopes of services, professional standards etc.Senior Project Manager before developing the role as in-house legal advisor and requalifying, with extensive new-build, fit-out and refurbishment experience in a variety of sectors, acting for major blue-chip clients particularly in the City of London/ Westminster. Substantial experience of Rights of Light/neighbourly matters, Town Planning/Listed Buildings, extensive negotiations with Local Authorities, EH/advisory bodies, archaeologists, highways/building control/fire, adjoining owners, clients, contractors, legal advisors.Specialties: Construction Law, drafting and negotiation of contracts and appointments for major public and private sector construction projects. Advising on a wide range of Framework and PFI agreements, due diligence/ reports on title, leases and appointments, base-build monitoring, condition surveys, asbestos/empty rates, schedules of dilapidations and building defects.
