I'm a criminal defense attorney passionate about two things: the law and criminal justice. The law, its history, and how it ties into our society are fascinating to me. I love when an idea that is so prevalent in one area of the law comes up in another. I love the textualist approach and how a word - or the omission of one - can vastly change the meaning of the law. And I love pointing those out and arguing them. To me, the law is not a dusty tome of statutes that confine. It is a large tree, with deep roots, that safeguards and protects our society and way of life.The dignity of any human being is priceless. But if there is one area of this society where that is often forgotten, it's criminal justice. It angers me when people are reduced to statistics. It angers me that those without skin in the game can check a box and determine a life. It angers me when society judges an individual not by a comprehensive look at their character, but by the lowest moment in their life. The criminal justice system often does whatever it can to dehumanize those it punishes. It is my privilege and my passion to never stop fighting for the individual in that system.I am fortunate to be a criminal defense lawyer. Every day I wake up and get to do work that I care deeply about.
