Commercial And Single-Family Projects Washington, Dc RegionSelf Employed And Other Jul 1995 - May 1999Four years of experience commercial and single-family work either working for myself or for firms. House Renovation work started with measured drawings of the existing house and meeting with the owner, structural engineer and contractor at the house. We met with the clients to understand their ideas and to review their completed questionnaires and scrapbooks and then designed a number of renovation/addition options for them to review. We then developed construction drawings and got building permits. For the residential work the projects were typically in Maryland and the District of Columbia with a few projects in Virginia. Small Commercial Projects were largely small franchise restaurants as well as small doctor’s offices, commercial office and a new portico for a 1930’s apartment building in Washington, DC. The restaurant projects involved travel to do a site visit and site survey with the MEP Engineer in Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Denver, Florida and the Washington, DC Suburbs. Verification of existing conditions, square footage and existing utilities in the space as well as what was available in terms of utilities the building or in the street. Contacted Health and Building Departments for requirements and codes to follow. Executed construction documents in consultation with the engineers. Facilitated Permitting. Most of the franchise outfits had Construction Managers who took care of Construction Administration.
