About Charles Schliebs

Following graduation from Wharton and Vanderbilt Law on full merit scholarships, Charlie returned to Kansas City and joined Blackwell Sanders [now Husch Blackwell], a pre-eminent Midwest law firm with a premier corporate/securities practice. He advanced to partner at age 29, as the firm’s youngest ever partner. After five years in the corporate world, Charlie conceived of the first office of an international law firm in Pittsburgh, proposed it to Jones Day and was a Jones Day partner from 1988 through 1999. At both firms, his substantive expertise was as a securities/corporate finance/M&A partner. At Jones Day he was also an international specialist with his primary industry focus being the inter-related pharmaceutical, medtech, ag chemical, animal health and biotech fields. At Jones Day, besides being the founder of the highly successful Pittsburgh Office, he was the worldwide head of the Firm's Life Sciences Practice Group until he left the firm in late 1999 to co-found with a Forbes 400 family a private investment/venture capital/private equity firm.From early 2008 until 2010, Charlie was retained by Chesapeake Energy, the nation’s then 2d largest producer of natural gas, to facilitate its entry into the Marcellus Shale. He was trained at Chesapeake HQ in Oklahoma with respect to unconventional natural gas exploration and development.In 2012, Charlie and Dale Killmeyer co-founded Stone Pier Capital Advisors to act as M&A, financial and strategic advisors across a variety of industries. Charlie was named to the 2020 Power 100, the 100 most influential people in Pittsburgh, is on the "Who’s Who in Energy" list by American City Business Journals, and served on Gov. Tom Wolf's Transition Team. During his legal practice, Charlie's work earned him an AV® Preeminent certification (5.0 out of 5.0) from Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings, the highest available mark for professional excellence.Charlie is Chairman of the Energy Innovation Center Institute, Inc. The Northeast Petrochemical Conference brings together all the players, and helps position the Northeast for the rebirth of the petrochemical industry in the Appalachian Basin and the creation of a petrochemical corridor along the Ohio River in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. Contrary to popular belief, the first ethane cracker was in this region, in the nearby Kanawha Valley in West Virginia. With the Marcellus and Utica shale plays, we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to rebuild the manufacturing base in our region using natural gas as a feedstock and power supply. I am proud to serve as volunteer Chair of this Conference, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 editions (2020 was virtual due to COVID, and 2021 was a COVID skip). The 2019 Conference was June 20-21 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, and will remain there when the Conference resumes in person.
