Dbs (Danaher Business System) Commercial Growth Leader

Loveland, Colorado, Us

Provided internal sales and marketing consulting to best leverage people, processes, and technologies across Hach’s large global commercial organization. I focused on three areas: lead generation, lead qualification, and opportunity management. Lead Qualification: I set up global processes that measure and encourage lead inputs from various sources, track conversion rates and timing, and ensure only the most qualified leads make it into the sales funnel. Lead Generation: I facilitated kaizens and workshops defining customer journeys and incorporating these journeys into new content and web experiences, supported by marketing automation and optimized through experimentation, daily management, and problem-solving. Opportunity Management: I developed and delivered in-region Funnel Management Leadership training to over 150 senior sales leaders in US, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Mexico, Central America, and Brazil, and continue to train and consult globally at all levels of the organization. Hach’s leads-to-booking initiative has surpassed stretch goals 3 years running and is regularly benchmarked across Danaher.

Oct 2015 - Oct 2019

Director, Shared Services And Global Regulatory Affairs

Loveland, Colorado, Us

I managed commercial support functions including Regulatory Affairs, Global Business Reporting, and Product Lifecycle Management. Through timely execution of carefully planned tactics, we successfully leveraged the Regulatory Affairs function to protect over $50M of at-risk existing business, achieve certification for new break-through technology worth $50+M per year, and introduced new methods to the EPA and other approval agencies reinforcing Hach’s position as a trusted advisor. The Global Business Reporting team compiled data from all global subsidiaries and produced critical reports used to manage the business - the challenge was data consistency, cleanliness, and accessibility. We undertook a multi-year project to standardize a new global item hierarchy across over 450K SKUs, laying the groundwork for a global data warehouse that would serve as one source of truth, reduce admin time, improve insights, and allow more self-served data. The Product Lifecycle Management team was closest to our customers, responding to customer issues, solving problems, improving quality, and reducing costs. Reinforcing Danaher Business System (DBS) fundamentals like Daily Management, Problem Solving, and Standard Work was central to my influence on this team.

Jan 2013 - Oct 2015

Director, Integrated Information Management (Software Solutions) Business Unit

Loveland, Colorado, Us

Integrating a small software company into a large product-driven company was no easy task. Part of the challenge was building processes and lean thinking into a formerly small family-owned business. Establishing metrics and daily management provided insight and focus. We improved customer satisfaction by instituting standard work, call center metrics, support ticket tracking system, improved field service processes, customer web portal, and creating a culture of continuous improvement. We used strategic planning to develop a new product roadmap and rationalize product offerings. We began using agile software development processes that reduced time and increased quality. We conducted market research for rebranding products, developing new pricing models, and developing content and messaging. We were successful in exceeding the ROIC targets established in the acquisition white paper and the strategy I first developed has continued to evolve as a core Hach strategy today.

Apr 2010 - Jan 2013

Manager, Integrated Information Management Business Development

Loveland, Colorado, Us

Hach long desired to improve the connectivity of its instruments, but as new products progressed through development, connectivity features were typically dropped due to weak business cases and time-to-market pressure. I developed a strategic plan that instead focused on acquiring capabilities to do something with data produced by water analytical instrumentation. This strategy would pull Hach towards higher-value solutions while also providing clearer ROI for data connectivity features. The strategy, grounded in heavy VOC, focused on three areas: expanding Hach’s existing Homeland Security business, developing real-time process control solutions, and developing regulatory reporting solutions leveraging lab, process, and field data. After researching the nascent water-related software market, I developed relationships with the few existing niche companies and larger companies positioning themselves to expand in this space. I worked with legal to develop an IP strategy. I was soon successful in finding mutual interest with our top acquisition target. I had a lead role in the due diligence process and ultimately managed the business post-acquisition. An important focus of early integration efforts was building Hach’s software selling capability and developing key account relationships to build credibility and recurring revenue.

Aug 2007 - Apr 2010

Global Product Manager / Product Development Manager

Loveland, Colorado, Us

I was responsible for managing Hach’s process instrumentation for the drinking water market. This role included market research, product development and launch, product end-of-life, pricing, sales training, marketing, and quality improvements. The role evolved to focus entirely on the development of a new common analyzer platform, leading a team of 10 through early tollgate stages, utilizing kaizens (Design 3P, Design for Manufacturing, VOC) and project management to outperform cost and time targets. This platform, developed with significant VOC, continues today as the standard for nearly all Hach process instrumentation.

Sep 2005 - Aug 2007

Vertical Marketing Specialist, Drinking Water And Industrial Markets

Loveland, Colorado, Us

I joined a newly formed vertical marketing team assembled to better understand Hach’s vertical markets (Drinking Water, Waste Water, and Industrial). As the first Drinking Water Market Specialist, I scoped the size and strategic opportunities within the market by leveraging market research, analyzing data, and building application knowledge. I created reports and standard processes for analyzing the market that continued to be used for more than a decade. I developed VOC-based marketing strategies and tactics for 5 product launches that drove >$15M in annual sales. I also managed a special project to develop and market Hach service offerings. This successful effort, which required training over 100 field sellers, ramped annual service sales growth from 5% to 30% over 3 years. Service has continued to be a major growth area for Hach, still grounded on the programs I first created.
