Here I enjoy a varied role in which I provide key support within the day-to-day operational running of the business, reporting directly to the Business Owner. Within this capacity, I manage financial information with accuracy and attention to detail including VAT returns, CIS returns and petty cash, ensuring compliance with HRMC requirements. During this time, I have also delivered key training to a new starter within the company in order to build their IT skills including Excel ability. Of my many successes within this role, I established a new dashboard for accounts management data with enhanced visualisation using Power Bi, this significantly improved efficiency using VBA and included an automated reconciliation functionality, reducing a 2-day process to just 15 minutes.

Here I gained key industry experience working within the Nano-Analysis division of a global manufacturer of tools and systems for industry and research. Within this role, I supported a key 3- week project and was responsible for the identification of detector architectures to provide the optimal yield for backscatter for comparison with conventional annular detectors and new company designs. For this, I utilised simulation programs (CASINO and pyPENELOPE) to determine the density of backscattered electrons as a function of angle, beam energy, beam diameter and scattering substrate. I developed a set of Python codes, allowing detector architectures to be effectively managed with a scalable software solution for future testing with enhanced efficiency. I also Compiled reports and presented findings to the Management Team which included recommendations and led to the completion of the project ahead of schedule. During this time, I also supported an 8-week project which involved the use of inbuilt functions of Oxford Instruments' proprietary software (AZTEC) to build new project files which contained edited versions of existing detector images. For this, I adapted existing python code which interacted with AZTEC which was written in C#. Within this capacity, I provided a means to improve headline detector speeds (Product Performance Indicator) using software improvements rather than expensive hardware charges to save the business both time and costs. I also oversaw all sensitivity testing and collated reference data with the symmetry detector and samples of silicone and steel. Additionally, I identified and resolved an unknown issue with the proprietary software which would give incorrect analysis results (automatically set calibration distances to their reference values of 0 when analysing rendering calibration meaningless). Presenting findings to the Management Team, I made recommendations for optimal detector indexing speed.
