Royalty And Specialist Protection

I lead a team of 30 specialist firearms officers, overseeing the provision of armed protection (Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace & Balmoral) and ensuring maintenance of exceptional security standards. Conducting significant risk assessments, I developed and implemented appropriate resolutions to fast evolving requirements and external influences. This included management of incidents with discretion and minimal media or public intrusion.I lead the implementation and resourcing of security for a range of ceremonial events, conferences and state visits. I liaised with partners across the senior Royal Household, military personnel, international security staff and government officials to deliver secure, well managed, events. Leading on security testing and exercise response, I managed complex logistical and operational demands. I served as the operational sector lead for national and international events including the royal weddings of 2018, state visits, Garter Day and the Royal Windsor Horse Show; delivering an exceptionally successful range of events whilst under a severe terrorism threat level. As crime lead within castle I reduced pickpocket offences reported to zero via problem solving out the issue. During my tenure, I have achieved a record of minimal breaches of security, consistently identifying and resolving critical incidents. This includes management of potential terrorist threat and identification of fixated threat individuals. Ensuring the proactive interception of unauthorised visitors and the identification of individuals who demonstrate mental health or fixated behaviour issues that might pose risk to Royal Family members; I deliver robust risk management whilst safeguarding the civil rights of individuals detained. I have constructively developed my team into an energised group widely recognised as happy and high achieving.

Safer Neighbourhoods

Leading 50 officers across seven teams, in a demanding and diverse London borough, I implemented robust solutions to community issues via problem solving and project management. Building and maintaining resilient relationships with partners, I delivered a personable and diplomatic approach, contributing to neighbourhood meetings and mitigating anti-social behaviour. I devised and led a new strategy for night time economy securing a marked reduction in violence and knife crime. As project manager on Operation Concordia I utilised exceptional influencing skills to alert local community bodies to the rising activity and danger of increased gang offending, particularly around the emerging ‘county lines’ behaviour which sought to draw vulnerable young people into drug offending. My initiatives and protocols remain in place today, recognised as effective good practice.

Operational Policing

I was selected to improve a large, previously underperforming team; tasked to manage delivery of policing services across an iconic and exceptionally busy area of Central London. Managing both uniformed Neighbourhood officers and the highly acclaimed ORB pickpocketing Team I worked in proactive partnership with stakeholders across businesses, hotels and Westminster council and directed operational responses to incidents, ensuring the most appropriate reactions were consistently delivered. Representing the MPS I frequently facilitated attachments of foreign Police officers and national media productions. I was tasked with reducing spiralling crime in the West End of London I devised and lead a multi-agency operation with limited resources and economic/political challenges to disrupt and reduce crime to record levels; devising innovative approaches including the highly productive use of media, use of Romanian Police officers and driving the implementation of body worn cameras. My initiatives achieved the greatest success across the borough, contributing to significant service improvement and a reduction in overall daytime crime by 15%. (This figure was never surpassed)

Westminster Gangs Team

Following the 2011 London riots I was tasked to lead a specialist operation to challenge, disrupt and minimise gang activity in Central London in the run up and through the 2012 Olympics. Leading a team of 42 officers and a diverse range of Westminster partners, I delivered proactive project management and resolution of an escalation in crime; implementing change through innovative initiatives and effective response to emerging crime patterns. Working to mitigate gang activity, serious youth violence and drug offending, I tackled these complex problems with limited resources and through resilient and determined partnership working. This secured a reduction in youth violence by 71% and knife crime by 52%. I also served as a public order lead, managing deployments throughout London and Northern Ireland including response to the public unrest of 2011 and during the 2012 Olympics. I created tactical plans, delivered briefings and supervised resources. Locally, I led the proactive challenge to crime and disorder issues, conducting searches, tracing and arresting wanted, and violent, offenders. As a result of this work my team and I were awarded a Commissioner’s excellence award in Policing for ‘Outstanding Reduction in crime’

As a Detective Sergeant in several CID offices and proactive teams in West /South West London I held responsibility for investigations, from initial planning and strategy setting, pursuing lines of enquiry, completion of case papers through to presenting evidence at Crown Court. Managing teams in proactive covert operations, I oversaw a significant caseload, prioritising and analysing intelligence to deliver successful intelligence led operations. I consistently secured the best use of resources whilst ensuring exceptional service delivery; delivering the very highest standards of evidence.

Having grown up through the Troubles as a child in a relatively comfortable area of Northern Ireland I was immersed into a new highly diverse and challenging life in the Thames Valley Police at Slough. There I moved through a broad range of training and development, initially working within an immediate response team, bringing fast, considered, reaction to critical incidents. I was selected for the Force Potential Scheme and on promotion to Windsor & Maidenhead I managed teams of officers providing these 24/7 responses. These were often high risk situations requiring exceptional conflict management skills and ability to connect with people in the most challenging of circumstances. I served as a public order supervisor and a custody manager; both roles required a measured, thoughtful and calm approach to manage heightened environments. I received a Chief Constable's commendation for saving an armed suicidal male from a self inflicted burning house. I transferred to detective duties on showing an intelligent and competent eye for detail, enquiry and observation. I was surveillance trained and participated in local crime operations in many pro-active roles. As a DS I lead the crime operations at events such as Royal Ascot , was the lead liaison officer with Broadmoor Hospital, ran the Maidenhead Burglary Team and Windsor CID
