I work as a freelance IT consultant, mainly providing infrastructure management and back office applications for third parties, including development of bespoke utilities in Golang, Python, and Node.js. I have experience in the Prometheus and Grafana monitoring stack, and manage the security, backups, and overall lifecycle of 70+ servers in the cloud (OVH), with some provision of on-site services.Furthermore, I also write and maintain technical documentation for these services, including policies following industry best practices, deployment guides, technical issues and solutions, and documentation for the applications I develop. I liaise with clients on a regular basis to ensure they are happy with their services, and to look at new directions we can take their businesses.My experience is not solely limited to backend development, and I have created and deployed several frontend services, including management of a WordPress cluster for a client, and other custom websites using Express and Next.js.

I worked casually for the University, acting as a project supervisor for a group of second year students on their software engineering group project. My role included weekly meetings with both the students and my supervisors, ensuring that the students knew what they were supposed to be doing and that they had adequate support from both myself and the department.As part of my role acting as a supervisor, I ensured that the team followed proper Agile development practices, advising on tasks that should be completed, in addition to ensuring that they made proper use of version control for development and code review, including proper structure of pull requests and sign-offs.I also advised on the architecture of their application, including scrutiny of their test strategy and in particular the security aspects of their application, recommending the use of Docker for containerisation of their database service, and GitLab CI for automated test runs and protection against merges when tests were failing or regressions were encountered.I also assessed both the groups I supervised and acted as a second examiner for two other groups, in bi-weekly sprint reviews, providing vital feedback on group progression and overall understanding of the task.

I worked casually for the demonstration team for the COMP1206 Programming 2 labs, providing guidance to first year students in their second semester of learning Java. I also assisted them with their first experiences with C. My role differed day-to-day, as each lab session covered different programming principles, ranging from simple logging and testing, to complicated multithreading and race conditions.This role allowed me to experience teaching in a one-on-one setting, carefully posing follow-up questions to students to increase their depth of understanding, without directly fixing the problems for them, encouraging the students to boost their problem-solving skills. I also helped students with programming-adjacent questions, such as IDE setup, version control, code readability, and issues with other modules, such as the COMP1204 Data Management SQL- and Bash-scripting coursework.
