My work at MARC involved recruiting, training, and managing the activities of public health, medical and other volunteers for the Medical Reserve Corps of Greater Kansas City (MRCKC), a regional community engagement initiative to improve the disaster resilience and health of communities within the Kansas City metropolitan region. During my tenure, the program more than tripled in size, becoming the largest Medical Reserve Corps unit in Region VII (Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa) with 835 volunteers.My work in the Health and Medical Division of the Homeland Security and Emergency Services Program at MARC also included working with a broad range of stakeholders, including representatives from federal, state, and local governments; community and faith-based organizations; voluntary organizations active in disasters; as well as individual community members and professional responders from multiple disciplines.
