As sole corporate counsel I reviewed and negotiated all agreements, reviewed work orders and change orders for contract compliance, attended bid-no-bid and commercial review meetings to provide risk analysis and develop mitigation strategies, advised the executive management team on legal issues, provided legal and contracts training to the various company departments, reviewed responses to document requests and subpoenas, and managed outside counsel in litigation matters. Additionally, the Procurement and QA/QC departments reported directly to me and I worked closely with both Human Resources and the Safety departments in drafting and facilitating policies and procedures and responding to claims and other issues as they arose.

I reviewed and negotiated construction, engineering, procurement and maintenance agreements mainly in the oil & gas and power sectors. These included a wide variety of MSA’s and project-specific agreements on behalf of Fluor Enterprises, Inc. and several of its subsidiaries and business units [American Equipment Co (AMECO), Plant Performance Services LLC, and Plant Engineering, LLC]. I also drafted and negotiated subcontract agreements with various service providers and suppliers and provided contracts training to employees in the sales and operations units.

I left private practice in 2001 to pursue a career with Fluor Corporation and was initially employed as the Process Manager in the Fluor/Entergy Alliance. This position reported directly to the Project Director of Operations. I was responsible for administrative and process oversight which included daily interface with the client’s business units. The Project Safety and Quality Control departments reported directly to me. I also provided training and was involved in the resolution of labor and employee issues in both open and closed shop postures. This position provided great hands-on experience and insight into the day-to-day operations of a successful maintenance and construction project.
