About Charlie Hernandez

I am of Ñuu Savi (Mixtec) descent majoring in Plant Science with a concentration in Sustainable Indigenous Agriculture and a minor in American Indian and Indigenous Studies. Indigenous communities have been the first targets of anthropogenic climate change. Therefore, I aim to bridge traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) of La Mixteca region and the western coast of Oaxaca with contemporary research in crop systems and cultivation to find solutions to tackle climate change in order to ensure the persistence and preservation of cultural food systems. I am also interested in co-creating with communities spaces for biocultural engagement and language preservation/revitalization.Feel free to reach me at ch967@cornell.edu
