After taking 6 months accrued annual and long service leave, it was decided to return to a more customer-facing role, providing in-field support for complex issues, support for other engineers, and to continue my work with system installations and training delivery. NetApp 7-mode and Cluster-mode installations and upgrades formed the majority of my work, while also assisting with complex and high profile service calls as needed. My focus was ensuring NetApp's clients receive the Total Customer Experience at all times.

An expanded role to include responsibility for service delivery of NetApp support throughout Australia and New Zealand, as well as retaining technical leadership for NetApp within the engineering group. Responsible for maintaining company-wide engineer accreditation and delivering engineering training up to the senior Field Service Engineer level.Worked on processes to ensure a consistent customer experience across A/NZ, liaising with NetApp management and their customers, mentoring and assisting in the field. Assigned as Project Manager (Storage) to lead a team responsible for upgrading and optimising installed NetApp base, and ensure next generation of equipment is delivered according to best practice.Delivered formal training including three ASE1/2 courses in Sydney, facilitated the new ASE course in Melbourne and delivered it many times since.Co-instructed newly introduced ASE3 courses for advanced technical specialists.

Started as Melbourne AIX Support Specialist, took on a national role in mid 2000. Trained colleagues in AIX, and became IBM Certified Advanced Technical Expert in pSeries and AIX. Assumed sole responsibility for Melbourne Network Appliance (NetApp) field engineering support from late 2001 until early 2005. Attended SAN Solutions training in Sunnyvale, CA late 2002. Trained colleagues, facilitated training, and acted as support engineer and mentor for the Melbourne NetApp team from March 2005. Mid 2008 attended Train The Trainers course and delivered several week-long Netapp Accredited Service Engineer intensive hands-on courses, with attendees passing the external Prometric exams.Maintained senior support role in Netapp as well as continuing to provide AIX support. Developed and delivered Netapp training material for customer (telco) system administrators. Attended Netapp NGS OnTap Troubleshooting course in Singapore in April 2009, delivered revised ASE1/2 courses in Sydney in July and October 2009.

Contract Senior Unix Systems Engineer providing third level Unix support in the Distributed Systems Implementation Group (formerly Renascence Engineering) in Wellington, New Zealand.Initially involved with Sun and Data General systems, assisted with EDS Y2k project. Technical lead with Westpac Trust SWIFT project, to migrate foreign transaction messaging from MVS to RS/6000-based client-server architecture - sensitive, high profile, mission critical. On completion was assigned to team migrating EDS Remedy helpdesk system to Vantive on a Solaris platform.

IBM Wellington, New Zealand. Started in an OS/2 support role, cross-trained on introduction of PowerPC and moved into AIX support. Became country expert on RS/6000 SP supercomputers, heavily involved in National Library, Carter Holt, TAB and IBM internal installations. Moved to development and project work with national electricity trading scheme, solely responsible for installation, configuration and administration of RS/6000s, including successful live DR testing. Attended residency in Austin, TX to co-create workshop on AIX and NT Interoperability. Became senior AIX systems administrator at Petone data centre, acting as advisor to contractors and other admins. Delivered a number of OS/2 and AIX courses for IBM Education as principal or co-instructor. May '98 appointed as RS/6000 lead in IBM NZ's Y2k compliance project. Many formal and informal awards for achievements.
