My name is Charlie Kent. I’m a sophomore at the University of North Texas, expecting to graduate in2026. Currently, I'm involved in Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity and Green Jackets, both UNT Organizations that focus on giving back to others. I’ve wanted to understand how the human brain works and become a therapist for as long as I can remember, which is why Psychology has become such a passionate, personal subject for me.Through others, I’ve found that I’m extremely empathetic, and I have a strong understanding of how toprovide a safe space for others in order to make sure that they’re safe and stable, while also ensuring that I keep an eye out for myself, and my own wellbeing. In my experience during work, I was reliable inmaking sure that my coworkers were doing okay mentally, and if they weren’t, I acted as someone to lean on.In my first job, one of my friends was having a rough, emotional moment due to issues with her mother,and it was causing her to lash out. I took her outside of our main building and gave her the chance to talk about what was happening, without it being solved immediately. Eventually, after some soothing during our conversation, she finally calmed down. I took the lead at the time and told my other coworkers how they could replace our positions for a moment, while also making sure my friend was feeling stable enough to return to work.Because of this, I’m hoping to work in an environment where I can do the same thing, which is providinga person with hardships to be heard and comforted. For an internship, I’m hoping to be in that kind ofenvironment more often, where people can feel safe with me, or I can help out in the building in as many ways as possible, whether that’s just taking notes down as well, or actually providing the advice and a listening ear.
