Professional Life Of StengerVarious Organizations May 2003 - Aug 2018During college, with the help of a friend I met folding clothes at Abercrombie, I landed an internship spanning three-summers at a giant employee benefits shop which was later acquired by Marsh McLennan. And, away we go ….Over the next decade, fueled by the energy of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, I learned about real-time risk management. As a junior broker and trader on the floor of the exchange, I was proficient in getting coffee, getting yelled at, and getting futures and options orders filled for our clients. As a natural extrovert, I enjoyed being a broker, connecting buyer and seller. I found my way to the busiest desk at the largest interdealer (or wholesale) broker in the world, ICAP. Our product’s daily electronic volume surpassed $180 billion for US Government bonds and $150 billion for the G5 foreign exchange. But, all good things come to an end: one door closes, another opens.In December of 2012, with a pregnant wife and just being laid off, I took my Rolodex and started an executive search practice, specializing in financial services roles in Chicago and New York. In 2016, my wife informed me she was pregnant with our second, and that we were moving back to her place of origin, Kansas City, MO. I said, “What will I do for a job?” She said with pride, “You will figure it out.”The universe planted us in Lees Summit, MO which we love.Back in 2013, on a putting green, a college buddy told me about a new insurance opportunity that caught my attention. Ron Burlison and Casey Bowlin struck a deal over a scotch & water to pursue like-minded agency owners who were looking for a transition plan. Years later, I convinced them to bring me aboard to help grow Sunstar via acquisition and continue to build my professional liability insurance practice. In 2020, I joined the Sunstar Insurance Group family of agencies as the Chief Mergers and Acquisitions Officer and as an Insurance Advisor at the Kansas City-based agency, the Bovard Insurance Group.
