I worked across a variety of health topics as a specialist in mixed methods public health research and evaluation, and policy analysis. Lead for a Health Foundation-funded public health research project to understand community-led action within complex systems in the context of COVID-19.

I am a researcher at the Policy, Research and International Development Division (PRID). My areas of work are: International Health policy, investments in the wider determinants of health, mass unemployment and the effects on communities, housing and health.

I evaluated the health and social impacts of 'Arbed', a Government scheme to reduce fuel poverty. Through a controlled before and after study of retrofitted energy-efficiency measures to at risk low income homes across Wales. My research areas were: determining the impact of the intervention on key self-reported health outcomes in residents, and identifying underlying intermediary processes involved in improving health outcomes. Skills: qualitative and quantitative methodologies, large-scale data collection, project management, statistics, scientific writing, focus groups, literature reviews.

I provided specialist scientific advice to public health practitioners, emergency services, public authorities and the general public on health effects of both small and large-scale exposure to chemicals. My focus was environmental epidemiology, environmental health, risk assessment, exposure assessment, emergency planning, and environmental sampling/data interpretation. I was the associate editor of the Health Protection Agency's Chemical Hazards and Poisons Report. I taught on specialist training courses for both professionals and post-graduate level, as well as setting and marking exam questions on a MPH course.

I worked as a policy analyst supporting the Commission’s special report on pesticides, Crop Spraying and the Health of Residents and Bystanders, leading on the environment and health aspects; gathering relevant information from multiple stakeholders, drafting and writing of the report, and enabling the launch of the report to the public and the media.

I worked as the environmental specialist on acute and chronic chemical incident management, providing active operational and technical on-call support. I specialised in reviewing IPPC (Integrated Pollution Prevention Control) applications on behalf of public health practitioners. I was heavily involved in running and teaching on national training courses on chemical incident management. I was the associate editor of the Health Protection Agency's Chemical Hazards and Poisons Report.

I worked on scientific and technical issues related to transboundary air pollution and climate change in the Science and Policy Unit of Air and Environment Quality Division.
