Teaching assistant in a special needs unit for children with moderate learning difficulties.

Teaching assistant at a special needs school, working with KS2 children. Many of the children presented with social communications and sensory difficulties, as well as challenging behaviours. My role was to help children academically and overcome various communication, social, emotional and physical difficulties. Communicated with the young people with clear and concise instructions, in addition to using Makaton, and supported children who use VOCAs and PECS.

Provided emotional support and de escalated challenging behaviour. I helped implement educational activities and resources, adapting to each individuals ability. Supported individual learning plans and provided feedback on work completed.

Serve food and drink to customers, adapting to their needs and preferences. Responsible for opening and closing the shop. Tasks included setting up for the day and cashing up.
