Studied steroid metabolism in human bone cells with respect to osteoporosis and diseases such as Pagets and Cushing’s syndrome. Techniques included cell culture, immunocytochemistry, TLC, DNA and RNA extraction, Northern and Western blotting, standard and RT-PCR, SSCP, DNA cloning and cycle sequencing. Involved the study of molecular chaperones in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, with respect to possible involvement in reactive arthritis. Skills related to protein purification, characterisation and analysis such as HPLC, FPLC, IEC, ELISAs and biochemical assays, and achieved the independent purification of a novel recombinant protein.
