Motivating and offering children a chance to explore and enjoy Rochdale’s woodlands whilst learning to respect and look after the environment. I helped schools and communities in Rochdale to enjoy their local green spaces. For example, I assisted the Toddler and Parent session at Hollingworth Lake. The session was an opportunity for parents to learn how to use the local environment in a fun way which they can do at home with their children to help build strong relationships.I educated children about the history of the local environment in a fun and creative way. For example, 100 years ago there was a textile mill at Healy Dell Nature Reserve. I led a session where myself and the children created colours using local berries to recreate a colour wheel. This gave children a different experience of how to learn in a creative and fun way. I worked effectively within a team. I worked with other volunteers and Park Rangers. I helped the park rangers to assemble different activity stations. For example, I assembled a cleaning station for the young children to use if the children become dirty. I also helped the Park Rangers to risk assess the area to check if it meets Health & Safety regulation. Working part of a team helped the sessions to run efficiently and effectively.

Creatively improving children’s literacy skills (age 10 months - 5 years) through the use of play, imagination and art. Providing rest bite for parents and guardians whilst their children engage with other children in the community and learn how to read. Confident at public speaking and taking leadership of a group. Each session had 10-15 children. I kept the children engaged by using different activities and assessing when the children began to get restless which I changed and adapted the situation. Experience of working with parents/carers. As a Storyteller I worked alongside parents to help them find different stories for their children. I also helped parents with crafts so they could take their new skills home with them. The Storytime sessions I created were free and open to anyone in the community. The sessions promoted diversity and inclusivity, that families from all backgrounds are welcome. The sessions were a fun and enjoyable experience to help improve children’s reading abilities. Initiative and creativity to develop a range of options/alternatives to support children. The sessions were tailored to the needs of the children. For example, at the end of every session I asked the children what their favourite books, animals and themes were, to plan and organise future sessions.
