Studied under Dr. Elaheh (Ellie) Rahbar to conduct translational independent research investigating the cellular response of traumatic brain injury in children and adults. Developed 3D liver tissue construct to study lipid metabolism and gene-diet interactions. Learned advanced statistical methods to determine genetic influences on inflammation following severe trauma in an adult cohort.

Assisted Dr. Elaheh (Ellie) Rahbar establish new lab at Wake Forest. Managed lab orders and several Internal Review Board and grant applications. Conducted independent research project using pediatric plasma samples to study fatty acid levels following traumatic brain injury. Learned new lab protocols including gas chromatography, fatty acid methyl ester extractions, thin layer chromatography, thromboelastography (TEG) and phlebotomy. Responsible for writing standard operating procedures and teaching new medical and graduate students proper lab techniques.

Worked as a laboratory coordinator providing program support for students, postdocs, graduate students and investigators (10+). Assisted with laboratory and experiment set up; ensured all lab personnel and project paperwork were up to date with the Internal Review Board and funding agencies. Recruited and scheduled research participants; maintained potential research participant database, confidential records and files including reimbursement schedules.
