You can't be what you can't see. Early stages of when a child conceptualizes who they will be "when they grow up," is a very crucial time in their development. For Black and Brown students, too often their belief of what is possible is limited by their limit exposure to various career paths. I believe that representation in career exploration can transform lives and the career trajectory of marginalized children---so I had to take action! I am continuously seeking ways to implement innovative solutions to advocate for underrepresented demographics. To disrupt the lack of representation of Black and Brown characters in children's products, I have launched a new inclusive business that transcends current societal norms. I am the Founder and Owner of Brown Joy, LLC. Brown Joy wholeheartedly believes that ALL children need to see positive images of Black and Brown characters (i.e., highlighted as doctors, teachers, astronauts, firefighters, etc.). Our purpose is to create images that showcase Black and Brown characters to increase recognition in more dynamic positions. Due to the scarcity of Black and Brown characters portrayed on children's products, Brown Joy: 1) provides products such as stickers, literature, and other industries where Black and Brown people are not commonly seen and 2) Offers a "Joyous" community that encourages the importance of representation, worthiness, and normalcy for children.In addition to my work with Brown Joy, I am a solutions-driven learning and development leader with 7+ years of organizational leadership, training, performance management, and career coaching experience. I enable businesses to drive talent acquisition and generate revenue by managing employee retention, improving employee productivity, and building organizational talent & workforce capabilities.
