Active on sustainable transport policy issues and projects in West Yorkshire. Director (volunteer) of EPIKS (Environmental Projects in Kirklees - a not for profit company). I am a member of Transport Planning Society, Huddersfield Unlimited Transport Group, and Secretary of Cycle Kirklees, the local cycling campaign. At EPIKS I am lead director on active travel projects include an e-bike test rides programme, an e-cargo bike promotion and nature walks. EPIKS projects also focus on the natural environment - enhancing biodiversity, improving access to greenspace, facilitating eco-volunteering and initiating partnership projects with local employers. My experience in environmental enterprises started in waste and recycling as CEO of Save Waste And Prosper, Leeds, which pioneered various early recycling projects. Then in sustainable transport, I set up the first commercial car club operator in Britain (City Car Club, now Enterprise Car Club). From 2010, I joined national charity, Carplus Trust (now CoMoUK) promoting shared mobility, working with operators and governments (TfL, DfT and Transport Scotland) and in 2012 became CEO. From 2014-17 I was also a board member of Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP now Zemo). Finally, from my early work in rural community cooperatives, I am secretary of the Community Coops History Project, ensuring the history and lessons of community-led economic development in the Highlands & Islands of Scotland from 1977 onwards is recognised.

Chief ExecutiveComouk (Previously Known As Carplus) Aug 2010 - Dec 2014Leeds, United KingdomChief Executive of environmental transport NGO, Carplus Trust (now called CoMoUK). Played a leading role promoting shared mobility as an alternative to car ownership and as a complement to public transport. Through accreditation of operators, data collection and managing an annual survey of car club members, Carplus published data and research on shared transport services in UK. In managing car club development funding programmes for three government departments/agencies and supporting local authorities, operators and communities in Scotland and England, Carplus has played a strategic role in increasing access to car clubs and car-sharing. With the challenges of new models of car-sharing and the wider use of ultra low carbon vehicles in shared use, the future pattern of urban mobility will increasingly see the expansion of shared transport. I had a leading role in the work with local and regional transport authorities on the development of their strategies on car clubs and latterly on shared electric vehicles. Our work has increasingly included support for other shared transport modes - including journey sharing, taxi sharing and bike sharing.I was active on the UITP Combined Mobility Platform that promotes synergy between shared transport and and public transport for four years.

Executive DirectorSave Waste And Prosper 1989 - 1997Appointed in Autumn 1989 to this not for profit company, I helped to turn it in to an innovative community-led consultancy on recycling, waste and supply chain issues. The company's board was appointed by Leeds City Council, Voluntary Action Leeds and included employee directors.Initally working on source separation for Leeds we researched the issue through the 100 Households Project before the launch of separate collection streams was introduced. In our consultancy we first advised ASDA on recycling and then B&Q on recycling facilities for customers, producer responsibility and their impact on supply chain decisions. We worked on the establishment of a national network of paint recyclng facilities in partnership with ICI Paints, and on the establishment of the National Household Hazardous Waste Forum.
